Evangelism: A Matter of Repentance & Faith

Category: Full Sermons, Video
Topic:

Mark 1:14 records that Jesus was, “proclaiming the gospel of God” and in verse 15 we see what that consisted of: “repent and believe in the gospel.”  Our evangelism must consist of such a message if we want to win souls to Christ.  Jesus said to His disciples that if they would follow Him, He would make them fishers of men.  Just as a fisherman does not cast out his line without the right bait, so must we also have the right message of the Gospel.

Please open your Bibles to 1 Corinthians chapter 9. After brother Diego and I spent last weekend down in Nicaragua and speaking with the brethren there about the nature of true repentance and true faith; and knowing that we have numerous on going evangelistic enterprises that our church is involved with, it seemed good to me to speak this morning about evangelism. Soul winning. Jesus said to His disciples that if they would follow Him, He would make them fishers of men.

First Corinthians 9:22. A very well known, and famous words of the Apostle Paul which says, “I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some.” “I have become all things”, now you remember the context here, in verse 20 he says, “To the Jews I became as a Jew in order to win Jews.” The idea of soul winning, the old King James version of the Bible says that, “he that winneth souls is wise.” Paul likes that idea of winning souls to Christ. Winning.

When we evangelize and somebody comes to Christ, that’s winning. We should not be afraid of that terminology. That is not Arminian terminology, that is Biblical terminology. Winning. We want to win souls.
