The Christian finds some comforts in having true fellowship with other believers. However those who are keeping some darkness don’t desire to come to the meetings because they’ve got something they are trying to hide and find themselves uncomfortable. But the children of Light say “Here we are, I’m all here, it’s all me!”
Some comforts for the Christian in verse 1 John 1:7. If we walk in the light as He is in the light we have fellowship with one another. There is a great consolation. a great comfort, a great joy. That we have fellowship with the saints of God. Fellowship with the sons of light, fellowship with these holy friends. Can’t you see that the friends I used to have, before I knew the Lord, they were no friends at all. Not really. They only helped me pick up speed for hell. But now the friends that I have, quite frequently its a little heaven on earth. Its like the two on the road to Emmaus. The Lord drew near. How many meetings do we get together and you get a little taste of glory divine? Fellowship with one another!
But if your keeping some darkness, you don’t much enjoy for coming to the meetings; it’s a drag, because you got that thing that your trying to hide. Your uncomfortable. But the children of light say “Here we are. I’m all here. It’s all me.” Fellowship with one another.
And a second comfort and joy is fellowship with God. It says in verse 6, If we say we have fellowship with Him, and it says in verse 4 truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. That’s where our fellowship is; that’s why we are here together. It’s not really for one another, it’s for the Lord. That’s what it’s all about, yes. And that was the whole point of redemption, right? It’s to restore fellowship with the living God.
You know Duncan Campbell was asked, after the Hebrides Revival in 1949 and following. He was asked, “Doesn’t it seem like now that the revival is subsided, that everything is anticlimactic to you?” And he said “Not at all” because he said, “You see nothing can ever be better than the daily walked with God”.
. Fellowship with God. and #3 in verse 7, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. You can sing about Cavalry all you want, but the blood of Christ is not going to avail if your not walking in the light. Cavalry will not cover what we will not uncover. But when we turn our hearts, there the blood of Jesus Christ avails for us.
Let me share a story about my daughter Evangeline. She was converted three years ago at a HeartCry Conference. Before that she would come to Terri and me and sometimes weeping… And you couldn’t ask for more repentance, but she could never break through. Never could close with Christ. We would tell her, “Can you tell God what you told us?” You know “Do you believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins?” She would say,” Yes God I believe you died for my sins”. NO, you got to get that right!, God sent His Son Jesus to die for your sins. “Yes, Jesus, I believe you died.” But do you believe that He died for your sins? She never could close with Christ She never could and then she was saved at the conference. Afterwards she said, “Dad and mom, it really wasn’t that complicated”. I mean we wondered what kind of demonic obstruction was going on here. And she says it really wasn’t that complicated Because down deep I had some darkness. I wasn’t really willing to run up the white flag of absolute, unconditional surrender to the King.
I’m talking about the comforts of being a child of light. There is the cleansing; full, free forgiveness forever. BY the Son of God. Isn’t He enough? The blood of Jesus Christ His Son. Isn’t that enough? Sins forgiven past, present, and future. A title to heaven, what a glory! And now and also there’s where your going to find the power. There’s where your going to find the joy.
Lord we say like David, “Search me, O God, know my heart, try me and know my thoughts; see if there be any wicked way in me”. And lead me in the way everlasting” – Psalm 139:23-24 Lord here we are, you called us out of darkness and into light. We could be out there sitting on a bar stool tonight. And we’re grateful Lord for your mercy upon us. And have given us a desire to be about your business. We want to tell You that we love You. We commit ourselves to You. And bless Your Holy name. Amen.
