Preciousness of Time

Brethren, let us consider the fleeting and sacred nature of time. Time is not ours to waste or take lightly; it is God’s creation, measured and granted to us for His glory. Before the heavens and the earth were formed, there was no time—only God, eternal and unchanging. But now, in this brief season of existence, we are called to redeem the days because they are evil.

Time is a mystery, isn’t it? Who can truly define it? We live it, measure it, and feel its weight, yet we cannot grasp its essence. It’s fleeting, swifter than a runner, as temporary as a shadow. Life itself is but a vapor, appearing for a little while and then vanishing. And because it is so brief, it is precious. Think about it: what makes gold and jewels valuable? Their scarcity. And so it is with time. We don’t have much of it, and what little we have slips away faster than we realize.

Why is time so precious? Because it determines our eternal destiny. The days we have now, this very moment, are the only ones we can use to lay hold of Christ and store up treasures in heaven. Once it’s gone, it’s gone forever—no second chances, no reclaiming it. Whether we are united with Christ or remain estranged from Him, the use of our time here will echo through eternity.

So how do we redeem the time? By walking wisely. Not as fools, not wasting our days in laziness or frivolity, but by seeking God’s will and making every moment count for His kingdom. Study His Word. Seek His face. Look for every opportunity to speak of Christ to those around you. Be like a merchant seeking treasures—always on the lookout for ways to glorify God in your work, your conversations, your life.

Brethren, this speaks to all of us. To the slothful, it warns against idleness. To the worldly-minded, it reminds us that we cannot serve two masters. And to the sinner, it pleads: today is the day of salvation. Not tomorrow, not someday—today. Every passing second is a gift from God, a chance to turn to Him and live for Him. Do not be deceived by the devil’s lies, telling you there is time enough later. Time is short, and eternity is near.

Listen to the voices around you—the groaning of creation, the warnings of Scripture, the whispers of your own conscience. All of them cry out, urging us to number our days and apply our hearts to wisdom. If you have been wasting your life, start anew. Turn to Christ, redeem the moments you have left, and live with eternity in view. For soon, time shall be no more, and only what is done for Christ will last. May God grant us the grace to see the preciousness of time and use it for His glory.
