Pride in the preacher?… What’s the problem? First, unbelief and subtle insecurity cause him to promote himself. He is afraid someone else will get the credit and the honor and threaten his position. But the Christian minister ought to ask himself, “Has God put me here or not?” If so, he can afford to take the low position, for he is secure with God.
Listen brethren, your conclusions about Scripture are not infallible, your rationale deductions and principles that you draw from Scripture, are not equal to Scripture. When you begin to draw principles from Scripture and enforce them on other people, your beginning to get on ground that is not safe.

The law of Christ is superior to every other revelation of law because it flows from His “new commandment” that we are to “loved as He loved.” This Christlike love embodies and fulfills the essence of the law and gives us the highest revelation of man’s duty imaginable… It can only be fulfilled in our lives as Christ Himself in the Person of the Holy Spirit, lives His life through us.
The godly man confesses his vulnerability. He does not foolishly trust in his own strength or the strength of his allies. He well knows if he draws not his help from God there will be “none to deliver.” He makes the confession of the redeemed who, apart from the love of Christ, are “accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”
The psalmist finds himself in a position we all commonly share at times. He is being slandered. His words and actions have been misrepresented and his character maligned… while affirming his innocence, he does not fail to consider the possibility of truth in the allegations against him. If we would be honest, then we have nothing to fear from objective examination.
So what does it mean to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God? It’s not just “I love His teachings and I follow Him.” It is this: I have nothing, I have no righteousness, I have no hope, except what God did for me on Calvary, and in the resurrection of Christ from the dead. That is my hope.
We are talking about people who have been made to believe they are lost and who cannot get saved. Even though some of them lack no evidence in Christian fruit, they are denied assurance because their experience seems faulty to the introspectionists. Accepting the condemnation of their tormentors, they try to repent more and to get saved.…and get absolutely nowhere!
It is not our physical labors that tire us most. It is more the anxiety and stress we build up in trying to get something done. It is the fear that it will not turn out right, that others will out-do us, that we will suffer loss. To unload ourselves from such burdens as these is rest indeed.
